Thursday 9th February
We visited Nablus and had a tour led by Fatama of Bait Al Karama. Fascinating and lots of food!
| Nablus is a busy, busy city |
| Olive Oil soap factory |
| Soap drying |
We went around the Nablus Markets
In the Turkish baths
| Saffron |
We finally got to our lunchtime appointment and a massive feast!
We then went to see how they make the Nablus speciality - Knafeh
| Ghee, Semolina & Saffron |
| Spreading the cheese on |
| Turning the Knafeh |
| Just before it gets its coating of syrup. |
| Enjoying the end result |
Communist Party of Palestine flag. 100 years old this month.
We then returned to Bethlehem, experiencing on the way back just a tiny taste of the daily frustrations Palestinians face, when our coach was not permitted to pass through a gate (after queuing some time to reach it), meaning we had to go the longer way around, considerably adding to our journey time. |
